Why do we need to make stuff up, when there's so much out there in real life that we can use? This is a selection of links to things I found interesting, and which can be drawn upon as source material for games, especially games set in the modern world. I'm a great believer in using real life material, partly because it immediately makes a story more plausible, and partly because you just can't have too much general knowledge of contemporary life.
Of course, most of the people writing these links take themselves seriously, and might not appreciate me citing them as sources of fun stuff to put into, say, a campaign full of vampires. Still, nobody publishes things on the Internet unless they want people to read their point of view, so they can't really complain about getting a bit more coverage. (Some of the information here, particularly the section on terrorism, is important general knowledge, and really is serious.)
And whatever you do, please don't read the section on weaponry, and then try building your own bombs. All the information found there is detailed enough to make for a plausible-sounding game session, but far too vague for use in the real world. If you try it, you'll only end up hurting yourself, (or worse, hurting someone less stupid).
